Edwin James letters, 1823.

Letters from James, an explorer, naturalist, and U.S. army surgeon, to Major Isaac Roberdeau, chief of the Topographical Bureau, requesting permission to explore in the Rocky Mountains, possibly with the Long Expedition. He writes from St. Louis (June 19), Benton, Missouri (Aug. 14), and Fort Armstrong (Nov. 4).

David Ives Bushnell was born 28 April 1875 in St. Louis, Mo. He was educated in St. Louis schools and in Europe. He worked as an assistant archaeologist at the Peabody Museum, Harvard University from 1901-1904.
